This award, to be used toward future educational expenses, is presented to a student who exemplifies the qualities embodied by Brendan during his life: a kind heart, keen sense of humor, endearing charm, fierce loyalty, and willingness to go the extra mile for a friend.
On Friday, June 7th, Phil presented the second annual Brendan Charles O'Reilly Scholarship to two deserving members of the St. Vincent Martyr class of 2024.
Charlotte Donnelly was one of this year's scholarship recipients. According to her teachers, Charlotte came to school each day with a positive attitude and a smile. She is not only friendly to her peers she also builds relationships with her teachers. Charlotte has a maturity beyond her years and will always go the extra mile for a friend.
It was a joy to present this award to Charlotte who is attending the Academy of St. Elizabeth for high school.
This year's award was also presented to Gio Romano. Gio started at SVMS in 6th grade and his enthusiasm and positive attitude made him a friend to all. Gio has a wonderful sense of humor and a fierce loyalty to his friends. He consistently demonstrated intergrity and respect for others.
Several teachers who knew Brendan commented that this scholarship was "perfect for Gio".
Congratulations to Gio and best of luck at Delbarton School.
On Friday, June 9th, Kelly and Phil O’Reilly attended the St. Vincent Martyr Class of 2023 graduation and presented the first annual Brendan Charles O’Reilly Scholarship, created in loving memory of Brendan O’Reilly, a 2013 graduate of SVMS. This award, to be used toward future educational expenses, is presented to a student who exemplifies the qualities embodied by Brendan during his life: a kind heart, keen sense of humor, endearing charm, fierce loyalty, and willingness to go the extra mile for a friend.
Morgan Artigliere, a graduating 8th grader, is the inaugural recipient of the scholarship. Morgan stood out for many reasons. As a student, she is a positive role model for her peers who asks thoughtful questions in class and participates in a meaningful way. She works hard to do her best to grow in her academics and her faith. Throughout her time at SVMS, Morgan was a genuinely respected member of the SVMS community due to her integrity, compassion, and– above all– her kindness.
A few days later, Thomas Walsh, a member of the SVMS class of 2024, and his mother Antoinette were asked to join Phil, SVMS Principal Sr. Noreen Holly, and a few members of the faculty for a quick meeting. During that meeting Phil presented the second Brendan Charles O’Reilly Scholarship to a very unsuspecting Thomas. Like Morgan, Thomas’s character and actions have not gone unnoticed. His politeness, kindness, and respect for others make him a standout among his classmates. Thomas is known to go out of his way to help others. Like Brendan, he is easy to get along with and truly friendly to and befriended by all.
Congratulations Morgan and Thomas!
